About QueerEugene.com

During the LGBTQ Town Hall last year, one of the requests that was repeated over and over was a single location to find out what was going on within the community. After the meeting I realized that I could create the website as easily as any one else and in July I launched the site.

I chose the name Queer Eugene because it was easier to say and read than the huge list of initials attempting to represent everyone and the gay and lesbians, in our community. "Alphabet Soup" was commonly referred to during the Town Hall last year and that LGBTQIA is not only long, it isn't fully representative either. I felt it was time to reclaim the word queer and own it as a positive representation of all who are different from the norm.

I met with David McCallum who created a calendar at
www.gayeugene.com and he agreed to let me pull his website into one of the pages on QueerEugene as the Community Calendar, this way we wouldn't be duplicating our efforts to keep the community updated.

My original design for the website included the standard rainbow banner and a long list of navigational items that was becoming cumbersome. I decided it was time for a redesign and chose to incorporate the colors in a different manner, as well as creating a logo. I wanted the site to be easier to navigate and believe I have accomplished that in the new design.

I also wanted the front page to constantly change and offer news and information from around the world that interests queer community, this page will continue to evolve.

I have a new
sign up for email announcements service. You can decide what types of announcements you want to receive, this list will grow and I am hoping to offer this service to the various organizations around town who are experiencing difficulties emailing to their members.

I created a
Teen section and am hoping that the youth groups will actually want to develop these pages so that they have the information they want posted, making it more fun for them.

A
Queer Elder's section was requested, but I have been unable to find services or information specific to this group. There has got to be something out there given our aging community. If you have information, suggestions or ideas, please let me know.

I am very excited about the website and its possibilities. I have been receiving wonderful feedback and the traffic increases every day. I am becoming more an more proficient at the tools available for websites and as I learn more, you will probably see something new appear shortly after.

If you haven't already, please take a few minutes and navigate through the pages. Your feedback and suggestions are always welcome, just go to
