With John Wayne and Montgomery Clift. This is a pretty good oater. Some of the gay sexual innuendo is pretty dated I am afraid, but this is now, that was then. The story is about Tom Dunson (Wayne) who has built a cattle empire with his adopted son Matt (Clift). Together they begin a cattle drive from Texas to a Missouri railhead. But on the way the plot thickens to cause Matt to take the herd and head to a new trailhead in Kansas. Dunson, who is really ticked off, swears vengence, and goes in hot pursuit.

With Anna Magnani, Burt Lancaster, Ben Cooper, and Marisa Pavan. More Tennessee Williams with surpressed sex and then hot sex. An Italian-American neighborhood is disturbed when truck driver Rosario Delle Rose is killed by police when smuggling. His buxom widow Serafina (Magnani) miscarries, then draws into herself. Naturally in Williams' world, mom tries to force the lovely, nubile daughter to do the same. (Enter the hot, young sailor.) Serafina eventurally learns of late husband's affair with another woman. But, here comes Burt Lancaster, a carefree handy man, truck driver, studd. You can guess the rest.

GLBT Movie Night - Red Headed Woman - Jul 23, 7:30pm
With Jean Harlow, Chester Morris, Una Merkel, Charles Boyer. This is a Pre-Code movie from the Forbidden Hollywood era. Movies from that period to us now look campy, but delicious. Lil (Harlow) works for the Legendre Company. Using her wiles (e.g. body) she gets the boss (Morris) to divorce his wife and marry her. She slowly works here way up the food chain to gain real bank. What I like about this film, instead of a sappy ending, is that it concludes with the courage of its convictions. You will see.

For those of you who saw Matthew Bourne's re-imagining of "Carmen" in his "The Car Man" will know what is coming in this film. Bourne, of course, is the gay British director. The film comments on the ups and downs of the British royal family and in this telling the prince is a gay boy, wretched and dissolute and dominated by his mother. The swan characters are all muscular, masculine males. This is not, however, and all-male-cast production. The ballerinas are lovely. The music is lush and beautiful.
